As I have said so many times before, you were handpicked by the Angels to be Jennifer’s husband and our son-in-law. I’m absolutely sure of that. The very first time we met you I sensed a gentle spirit in you. Your smile and your laughter, the way that you obviously adored Jennifer…I knew that God meant for you to become part of our family.
Jennifer adored you. In fact, her world revolved around you. Even when she was very ill, you were her priority. She tried very hard to make a home that was filled with hugs, love and laughter. She succeeded. She loved to laugh and she would laugh so hard at times that her cheeks and stomach would be hurting by the time she was able to regain control. You knew that better than anyone. Like her mom, she was also a hugger. She especially loved your hugs. I know that because she told me. You were her teddy bear.
Over the past two months I have remembered so many memories that will always be precious to me. You were in many of those thoughts and memories. You are one of the few who have ever made me speechless. Jennifer loved those times. Her laughter would reach another level as I would be trying to think of something to say. The banter between you and me would usually end with her smiling and simply saying “Bless” because there was nothing more to say. If the banter included her dad, she would look and him, smile, and say “Bless you, bless you, bless you”.
After her foot surgery she was so concerned that she wouldn’t be able to walk down the aisle on her dad’s arm. She was concerned that she wouldn’t be able to dance at her wedding. She walked and she danced in her pretty pink tennis shoes and her beautiful wedding dress. She was a beautiful bride and I know that her heart swelled with pure love when she saw you standing at the end of the aisle. I know that was the happiest day of her life.
i have cried oceans of tears and those will not likely stop anytime soon. I have prayed so hard to please let us all wake up from this horrible nightmare but that is not going to happen. I have wondered and questioned what could have been done differently, where we could have taken her to get better medical care, why didn’t this happen or why wasn’t that suggested…those questions weren’t answered. Perhaps the questions weren’t meant to be answered.
I firmly believe that God has a plan for every one of us. What was his plan for Jennifer? She brought so much love and kindness into the world around her in the short time that we were privileged to have her with us. She put others needs before hers. She loved us all with a love that was deep and endless. She cared for us so much and would not always let us know when she was feeling bad because she didn’t want us to worry.
Yes, God sent you to be her husband. He knew that she would need someone with a loving, caring heart to be by her side during her good days and her bad days. You were the perfect husband and the perfect son-in-law. You still are the perfect son-in-law. We love you so much, Doug and we thank God for you everyday.
